Matthew Spink’s Top Club had to settle for a draw in their Ziggys Metro Cars Halifax Sunday League Premier Division match with Mount Tabor.

The game started as a scrappy affair on a Carr Green pitch that has suffered from the winter rain. The away side took the lead when a long ball wasn’t dealt with by the Top Club defence and the Mount Tabor striker took full advantage. The lead didn’t last long when centre half James Lord scored a great header from a Martin Boon cross. The second half produced few chances for both sides and petered out into stalemate.

Barge FC beat the Division One League leaders Feathers for the second time this season.

Barge started off the game the brighter team, taking thelead with a well worked goal from Jamie Cartledge.

Barge always looked threatening going forward but it was Feathers who took their chances in the first half and they led 3-1 at the break.

Barge came out of the second half still confident, even though they trailed. It was Andy Salm who stole the show, scoring a hat-trick; one, a great strike from 25 yards, another an unstoppable free-kick from 35 yards.

Barge manager Matthew Bagshaw said: “It was a great team effort to come back from being 3-1 down to keep our promotion push alive.

In Division Two, Crown FC stopped the rot of five successive defeats with a great win against Weavers FC at Rastrick High School. “And by rot,” said player-manager Kristian Ellis.

“At the end of the day it was a case of rolling up the sleeves and putting all negative thoughts from my own goal in the cup game against Rangers, out our minds.”

The first goal had a bit of late drama, with a cracking header from Joshy Maskill past the Weaver’s goalie!

There was a red card after 30 minutes for an alleged elbow from Crown’s Chris Davis. However, Crown rallied with a second goal from Craig Suttle!

A third and final goal after the break came from swashbuckling man in shining armour – Richy Knight.

Midfield dynamo Craig Gabitas wasnamed man of the match.
