Brighouse Old Boys manager Phil Garbe was rocked at Tuesday’s training session by the news that his talented and experienced striker Rob Kenny could be out for the season.
“Rob is struggling with a groin problem and he was saying that he might give this season a miss to ensure it heals,” said Garbe.
“He would be sorely missed but the lad knows best and he will be back when he is ready.”
The Old Boys will have their first pre-season run out at home to West Riding CAL Premier Division outfit Storthes Hall on Thursday, August 1 (6.45).
They follow this up two days later with a visit to Heckmondwike club Littletown from the same league (2.30) and then are at home on August 10 (2.00) to Halifax Irish.
Garbe has also had talks with Brighouse Town’s assistant manager Mark Booth and yesterday he was awaiting to confirm a date with Development team manager Charlie Tolley in which he will also play reserve team players.
Their former player Neil Fitzjohn, a UEFA B badge holder, is also coming in on a Thursday evening to assist with coaching the players.
The Old Boys have four promising new faces in their ranks but the manager wasn’t up for revealing any names until they are well and truly signed on.
