Finley Mitchell is seven-years-old and like many young boy he is dreaming of becoming a professional footballer! That dream is fast becoming a reality with the offer of a pre-contract at Manchester City.
Finley, the son of Brighouse Town Ladies manager Rob Mitchell and player Kayleigh Bamforth, is football crazy and unlike many his age isn’t into playing with toys, instead he likes to spend his time and pocket money on boots, kit and tickets to matches.
All he wants to do is play football whether it’s in the garden, on the Xbox or at Brighouse Town. Even on holiday in Turkey he found a local team to play for and scored four in a 5-2 win for Mamaris Juniors.
Fin travels over to Manchester three times a week for a two-hour session at the impressive Etihad Campus where he trains with the Elite Academy. He was first spotted by City playing in his front garden by a local scout who was working as delivery man before he was seen in a game for his local side Rastrick Juniors.
At the time Finley was playing with Huddersfield Town juniors before making the switch and he hasn’t looked back. So far in his young career he’s played against the likes of Arsenal, Bolton and Doncaster but at this stage it has to be about enjoyment and evolving as a player. He still plays for his local side Linthwaite Athletic at U8 level, which being the year above presents him with more of a challenge.
“It is a big commitment not just for Fin but for the whole family who all chip in with lifts,” beamed proud Dad, Rob.
“He is a very confident little lad and well thought of and he is part of what the coaches have called a special group of players, a group they have high hopes for in the future and Finley is just happy to be part of it.”
Finley said “I love playing for Manchester City, I don’t support them but they are a good team and I enjoy going to watch the first team play, especially Kevin De Bruyne, he’s an excellent player.”
