Illingworth St Mary’s and Mixenden United rounded off promotion-winning seasons with big wins in the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL last night.
The final four league fixtures took place with two matches in Division One and two in Division Two.
Division Two champions Illingworth made it 21 wins out of 22 - they suffered their only defeat at the hands of Brighouse Sports in mid-March - with an 11-3 home win over Denholme United Reserves.
Mixenden United have finished only two points behind Division One champions Holmfield after a 7-2 win away to Halifax Irish Centre, Damien Randall scoring four times.
Ryburn Reserves’ Lewis Brierley scored five as his side won by the same score away to Sowerby Bridge.
St Columbas have finished third in Division Two after a first win over Shelf FC, by 4-1 away.
Shelf took an early lead through Liam Kearns’ volley but Ryan O’Neill’s inswinger corner found the top corner of the net and Kitubo Touray put Saints ahead with a 30-yarder which went in off the bar.
George Cook showed great tenacity to beat a defender and the keeper to the ball and walk it into an empty net to give Columbas a 3-1 half time lead.
The scoring was completed when Saints’ leading marksman Vinny O’Shea ran through on goal and slotted in through the keeper’s legs.
