TOP junior swimmer Eden Warburton will be competing in Stockport on Saturdayin the 100 and 200 metre freestyle and the backstroke.
The 10-year-old Carr Green Junior and Infants pupil is aiming to be the country’s number one in her age group for the 50 metres freestyle.
She had a great win last month in the British GasYorkshire Swimming Associaton Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
“She also came second in the back stroke and third in the butterfly,” said proud dad Alex.
“It is all in preparation for the North Eastern Championships in June. Last year we had to go to Sunderland for it, but it is closer to home this time back at Ponds Forge.”
Training for Eden is five to six days a week, with an early 6am start on a Wednesday.
“It is a full time job for me and her mum Jo-Anne, but she is worth it and we have to nurture her talent.
“Her hero is Liverpool’s Commonwealth Silver medalist Fran Halsall and she would love to go and see her compete in the London 2012 Olympics, however it is a lottery as to whether or not we could get a ticket to see her.
“When she goes 11 she will be able to qualify for the Nationals and then at 15/16 yearsold who knows we maybe looking for sponsorship for the Great Britain team and she can follow Fran to the Olympics and Commonwealth games. Of course it is all down to Eden,” he said.
