Coates and Seerha first to make it through

Gareth Coates (Halifax) and Harry Seerha (Lower Hopton) were the first qualifiers in the £5,300 Brighouse Classic held last Friday evening at Brighouse Sports Club BC

The finalists bowling for the Rastrick Bowling and Social Club President's Day trophies were from the left to right:, Joanne Marsden, Sandra Hall, Ken Holroyd  club President- Jack Humpleby and Roger Stopford. In the mens competition Stopford was the eventual winner beating Humpleby, the club's youngest player, 21-10, and in the ladies competition Marsden beat Hall 21-14 in what turned out to be a most enjoyable day.

The competition went ahead in its 10th season despite the sponsor Limegrove Leisure pulling the plug.

Tony Riley and his colleagues in the bowling section at the club have rallied round to make up the shortfall.

Coates beat Wayne Ditchfield 21-13 in the qualifying game whilst Seerha beat Jack Hargreaves (Hyde) 21-20. The heats continue on Friday with previous winner Simon Coupe in action.
