Club looks east for new signing

RASTRICK Cricket Club officials are getting excited about their new professional signing.

Their excitement follows Sri Lanka’s whitewashing of England in last Saturday’s Cricklet World Cup quarter-final in Colombo.

For the Drakes Huddersfield Conference League side have signed Kalumith Madura Sanjaya De-Silva, 28, from Ambalangoda in Sri Lanka.

He has played for the following clubs, Moratuwa Sports Club, Singh Sports Club and Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club.

His first class debut was in their 2004/2005 season

He is a right arm off break bowler and right hand batsman.

“We have had players from Australia, New Zealand and South Aftrica but never before Sri Lanka.

“I just hope he settles in well and starts scoring runs and taking wickets for us,” said the club’s Sunday League skipper Laurence Pearson.

l THE annual Brighouse Cricket Club Workshops first round draw will take place tonight (Thursday 8pm) at Brighouse Sports Club.

It is hoped to get an early start as per last year with Sunday, April 17 pencilled in for first game.

Details of the draw will appear in next week’s Echo together with some provisional dates.
