GREG Osborne has stepped down as Brighouse Cricket Club captain for personal reasons, but is looking forward to continuing to play for the club.
Osborne was appointed skipper when Paul Cummins unexpectedly left at the end of last season.
He brought the club much needed stability, and was instrumental in retaining the bulk of the playing squad for the current season, said cricket manager Darren Emmerson.
“The committee members were delighted he took on the demanding role and were very pleased with the effort and commitment Greg showed and have reluctantly accepted his decision,” said Emmerson.
“Will Smith has been appointed the new captain and he has chosen Adam Brown as his vice captain.
“The committee wish them both well and are sure they’ll put every effort in for the remainder of the season to turn playing fortunes around.
“Will is already speaking to new players hoping to bolster both first and second team squads, while Adam has taken on the role of gaining the club a Clubmark accreditation which will open up channels for ECB and Government funding to improve playing facilities and encourage more senior and junior teams at Brighouse.”
