A Hipperholme barber has proved he’s a cut above the rest after receiving international recognition.

Wayne Anthony’s Barbers, Halifax Road, Hipperholme, was named a Barber of Excellence by the World Barbers Association.

The award recognises the cream of the crop in the world of men’s hair and is aimed at barbers with more than 25 years experience.

“I’m very proud to pick up the award,” said shop owner Wayne Anthony (right).

“It’s a great accolade for the shop and really proves that we are doing something right here. We have a great atmosphere in the shop and a great set of customers.”

Wayne Anthony’s is unusual in that it is 1920s themed with its own bar and mannequins kitted out in various costumes as the days go by adorn the windows of the shop. It also houses authentic furniture and decorations as well as staff wearing traditional pin stripe clothes, bow ties and pocket watches.

Mr Anthony said: “I wanted to create something a bit different.

“It’s about providing an experience for men’s hairdressing that they won’t have had before.”
