Incredible Edible Brighouse has chosen the site of its first planting scheme - and now it needs volunteers to help make it grow.
Members of the innovative grow-your-own scheme are starting work this weekend on the overgrown flower beds around Wellington Arcade in Brighouse town centre.
The aim is to get the raised beds prepared and dug overready for the Totally Locally street market on April 27. Volunteers will be busy in the area round the Wellington Arcade from noon to 2pm this Saturday, April 20 - and more are needed to join them.
Chair of the steering committee, Jackie Bradock, said: “Following great feedback regarding which areas to improve first, we are looking forward to starting work on the raised beds surrounding Wellington Arcade on Saturday.
“We would love to see anyone who is interested in helping out with the gardening or in finding out more about the scheme.”
Future projects will include the areas around Brighouse Health Centre and Bethel Street.
Incredible Edible Brighouse hopes to have the green spaces around Wellington Arcade converted into a garden growing food for the community in time for 1940s weekend in June.
“All it needs are plenty of people to get i nvolved - Brighouse needs you!” said press officer Fran Lister. “No experience is necessary and our friendly team will be glad to tell people more.”
