With the Brighouse Canal and Music Festival fast approaching, volunteers are wanted to make the area look its best for the event.

The canal clean-up will take place next Thursday (August 11) and is the area’s seventh tidy -up in the run up to the festival.

The main objectives of the clean-up are to remove debris and overgrowth from around the canal banks and to make the area look its finest ready for the festival and all the visitors.

The equipment required will be provided by the Canal and River Trust and the local Harbour Master has arranged for a barge to come along, allowing volunteers to spruce up even the difficult to reach banks on the water’s edge.

Local businesses are on board and will be supporting the event by providing refreshments for volunteers and local restaurant Prego will be providing a light lunch with teas and coffees once the job is done.

Lidia Shinwell, event organiser and director of Prego said: “It is a great community event and brilliant for families!”

“Certificates for all children who participate will be provided and the press will be there to show the fantastic community we have in Brighouse.”

This year’s Canal and Music Festival will take place on August 20 and 21 and is set a great weekend with live music on two outdoor stages, canal boat rides and a street market with over 70 stalls of locally produced foods and crafts.

If you would like to get involved please meet at Prego Restaurant, entrance in Bethel Street car park at 10am next Thursday.
