TWO people were taken to hospital after a smash on a Rastrick estate.

The 57-year-old female driver of a Vauxhall Corsa and the 26-year-old man driving in a Rover were cut free from their cars by firefighters after the collision in Field Top Road at its junction with Foxcroft Drive. Both suffered minor injuries.

Crews from Brighouse, Cleckheaton and Elland along with police and ambulances services attended the scene last Thursday at around 4.10pm.

The accident has sparked major concerns from residents in the area.

One resident said she had seen a dozen accidents at the junction over the last two years and it was becoming more regular. “Even when you get to a point where it appears to be clear to go you have to slam on because someone comes speeding round the corner,” she said.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It needs some type of traffic calming like speed bumps so people don’t go so fast around this corner from the estate. It honestly does need something because visibility is not very clear coming out of Foxcroft Drive and it can be difficult to turn.

“I am going to suggest getting a few residents together and going to our councillors because one day someone will be killed. When it gets late you can hear drivers speeding down the road.

“The situation actually is better around school time because with the amount of traffic it slows people down and with all the children coming out of school motorists appear to be more careful.

“The victims of the latest crash though were very lucky to be alive because it could have been quite nasty.”
