Brighouse Town have been crowned Northern Counties East League Premier Division champions.

They secured the title with a 2-0 win over Retford United over the Easter period and have one game remaining this Saturday against Bridlington Town where they hope to break the 100 point mark.

Manager Paul Quinn said: “I am absolutely delighted for everyone at the club, because it has been a real all-round effort.

“We’ll be underdogs next season and obviously we will have financial restrictions but there will be no pressure on us.”

The club’s chairman Ray McLaughlin and CEO Chris Lister were full of praise for their manager, his assistant Mark Booth and coaches Rob Mitchell and Rob Wilson.

“We have also noted of late in this great run in to the championship and promotion how the townsfolk of Brighouse and district have become aware of us and started supporting us in numbers,” said Mr McLaughlin.

Brighouse Town are expected to be promoted to the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North, where the newly formed FC Halifax Town began life back in 2008.

Brigouse will face ex-Conference clubs Northwich Victoria and Farsley, Warrington Town, Lancaster City, and Harrogate Railway.

They will also face Salford City, recently purchased by Manchester United legends including Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.

In the FA Trophy they could be looking to entertain former Football League clubs Barnet, Lincoln City, Macclesfield and Chester, among many other big names.
