BRIGHOUSE people are being urged to have their say on the future of the town before it’s too late.
The consultation process for Calderdale Council’s Local Development Framework will be coming to an end on March 25 and will begin the process of shaping the future of the area for the next 20 years.
A total of 76 comments about the Core Strategy, which will lay out plans for housing development, transport issues and what role towns will play, have been received with only three relating to Brighouse and 15 for Northowram, Shelf and Hipperholme area. The comments from the public meeting in Brighouse will also be taken into consideration.
A Calderdale council spokesperson said: “We are still steadily receiving comments. We are keen for as many people to make their views known in writing as their comments will be a key element in developing the Core Strategy.”
Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Environmental Group member, Chris O’Connor, said residents need to get involved now before the final LDF plans are submitted as there will be little people will be able to do to oppose them later.
“People need to make comments now,” he said. “This area as well as Brighouse, has been earmarked for major housing developments and we could get overwhelmed by them.
“The more people who get involved at this early stage the more notice the council will have to take of what people want.”
Council leader Janet Battye: “Planning is always a delicate balance. So we need to know how we can protect our environment while at the same time providing jobs, homes and all the facilities that we need.”
