A tanker carrying potential hazardous chemicals spilled its load closing main roads around Brighouse and Huddersfield.
Fire crews from Rastrick, Huddersfield and Dewsbury were called to Cooper Bridge Road at 7.30pm on Wednesday to removed the toxic chemical which is thought to be an oil-based solvent from the road.
The West Yorkshire Road Policing team closed the road between Copper Bridge roundabout and Cooper Bridge Road towards Bradley, and Wakefield Road in Brighouse.
Firefighters liaised with technical support to remove the chemical and spent over three hours dusting down the road. The road was finally reopened just after 11pm.
It is believed the potentially hazardous substance had leaked from tanks which were not properly secured.
