Store plans go before committee

Controversial plans for a new supermarket in Brighouse will go before Calderdale Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

Plans submitted by Worthington Properties for an Aldi in Birds Royd Lane with parking have been recommended for approval. The proposal is to demolish a number of buildings in the area and construct the store with 90 car parking spaces. Access is off Princess Street which is an unadopted road leading on to Birds Royd Lane.

Objections to the plans include the distance from the town centre and highways issues. It is due to be heard at 3.30pm.

Also being heard at the committee is alterations to conditions on the development on land next to Crosslee in Brighouse Road, Hipperholme.

Persimmon Homes wishes to make highway alterations once the 40th house has been occupied as opposed to the first as was previously agreed. Councillors have strongly opposed the application although the officers recommendation is mindful to permit.
