It’s done it again.

Smash BBC series Happy Valley, both filmed and set here in Calderdale, has added more gongs to its ever-growing haul at the Royal Television Society’s North West awards.

The gritty police drama, penned by Sally Wainwright, and starring Sarah Lancashire as no-nonsense police sergeant Catherine Cawood, gripped the nation.

At Saturday’s prestigious awards ceremony, the show won Best Production (Craft). Sarah Lancashire picked up Best Female Drama Performance and Kevin Doyle, who played detective John Wadsworth in the show’s second series, won Best Male Drama Performance.

Writer Sally Wainwright received the society’s Fellowship award.

It was recently confirmed that the show would return for a third series.

Fans of Wainwright’s work also have a Last Tango in Halifax Christmas special and her new Bronte drama ‘To Walk Invisible’ to look forward to.

A special screening of the Bronte film will be held in Hebden Bridge next month.
