DANCE classes have been set up to inject some 'Strictly Come Dancing' fun into slimming by a Brighouse Weight Watchers' club.
Members of the club, which meets at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Brighouse, wanted to find a new and exciting way to get some exercise into their weekly routine, so they suggested dance classes.
The classes will take place every Tuesday and they will be taught ballroom, salsa, rock and roll, and Latin dance moves.
Lisa McCarthy, of Halifax, who leads the class, said: “I was really pleased when the members suggested introducing dance classes to their meetings.
“Healthy eating and exercise go hand in hand and it is so important to get the right balance.”
Lisa, who lost four-and-half stones with Weight Watchers, said this was a first for the company.
Dance teacher Sarah Merewood, of Huddersfield, said: “Dancing is such a great way of exercising, all the members thought it would be a fun way to get fit. The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ TV programmes are very popular and have put dancing in the spotlight.”
Sarah, who is half a pound from her goal weight, said: “The classes will last 45 minutes, and there will be a mixture of dancing styles. The classes will be suitable for beginners so it will be easy for everyone to get involved.”
Twenty-six people have signed up for the classes so far, and they’re hoping that as the weeks go by, more and more people will come and have a go.
Lisa added: “It is fantastic that everyone is so enthusiastic about joining in. When you are wanting to lose weight it is vital that you have the support of like-minded people around you, and that is what we provide.”
Anyone who would like to take to the floor is welcome to join in.
There are a lot of young mums at the meetings and children are also welcome to come along to the dance classes.
The classes will be held on Tuesdays at 11am, and cost 3. The group’s meetings are on Mondays 5pm until 6pm and 6.30pm until 7.30pm, and on Tuesdays 10am until 11am at St Joseph’s Church Hall.
