A RASTRICK High School student has qualified to the finals of a national dance competition.
Sian Smith was crowned the winner of the North East medallist of the year in classical sequence when she competed against 14 other dancers aged between 13 and 16 in County Durham.
Her mum, Carina, said Sian, 13, was one of the youngest dancers in the competition and had never won a competition since she started dancing at the age of seven. “Up to joining Kirsty Marshall of York Dance Studio in Huddersfield two years ago, Sian has never managed to achieve a place in the final. But this time she not only got through to the final she actually went out and won it,” she said.
Sian who lives in Alandale Road, Bradley, was presented with a trophy and a shield. She also qualified to the grand final in Blackpool in October where she will compete with finalists from across the country.
Sian said she was thrilled to win and get through to the final.
