Mother of two Sarah Tearne now smiles back at her reflection after dropping five dress sizes.

The 34-year-old has gone from a size 18 down to a size 10 thanks to Slimming

“I’ve always dreaded the nightmare shopping trip, needing an outfit for a night out or occasion, knowing it always ended in tears not being happy with the reflection staring back in the changing room mirror, trying to hide the lumps and bumps in something black and baggy,” she said.

Now she has the confidence and the body shape she always wanted and can look forward to those special occasions and social outings after joining Fran Cowley’s Slimming World Group in Northowram.

“It’s not diet, it’s a new way of life,” she said. “A healthy lifestyle where I’m in control, no more restrictions of calorie counting just following Slimming World’s eating plan.

“The plan is easy to follow, with simple every day foods which are affordable and fit into family life. I never go hungry, in fact I eat more now than I have ever done.

“I still enjoy favourite foods like fish and chips but the Slimming World way, a full English breakfast and traditional roast dinner. There are so many recipes and choices that I am never fed up or bored of the foods I’m eating.”

Sarah joined Slimming World in March 2012 after attending a routine health check at her GP’s where she was told that her BMI was within the clinically obese category.

The UK has the highest obesity level in Europe with 74 per cent of people with an obese BMI underestimating their weight.

“I took the news to heart and knew I had to do something. I knew I was overweight but you can’t fluff that word,” she said.

“As soon as I walked into my first group meeting I felt welcomed and inspired by all the amazing people who shared their experiences and slimming tips.

“Imagine my delight when I realised I wasn’t the only one feeling down about my weight.”

This gave Sarah the determination and desire to lose weight all the more.

In her first week Sarah who lives in Northowram, lost three and a half pounds, an achievement she was proud of. This was the start of her new beginning she dreamt of.

“The support in group is brilliant even if you have had a bad week or gained weight unexpectedly. There is no humiliation or pressure, your weight is never revealed and you can decide your own personal achievement target that is right for you.

“It was good not to be dictated to by a graph.”

In April 2013 Sarah reached her personal achievement target losing three stone 1.5lbs. “I remember it clearly, the shriek of delight as I had reached target. I could not stop the tears of joy as all of my group friends joined in with the celebration, it was an emotional moment.

“My whole self-confidence had been given a boost. I am proud of my achievement and have a great desire to go out shopping for new outfits now.

“No more hiding under baggy clothing but smiling as I reach out for that size 10 dress, something I never dreamt of happening.

“My BMI is now in the healthy range and I have now much more energy and motivation in my everyday life. I have also begun to enjoy walking and it has become part of my healthy lifestyle.”

Slimming World has become such a big part of Sarah’s life that she has now trained to become a consultant to help and inspire others on their weight loss journeys and opened her own group yesterday, Wednesday, September 4, in Brighouse at St Martins Parish Church.

The sessions will take place every Wednesdays at 7.30pm. For further details contact Sarah on 07855944710.
