Salon’s Gary hopes to be cut above the rest

Brighouse salon owner Gary Taylor is hoping to be recognised as a cut above the rest after reaching the finals of the British Hairdressing Awards.

Mr Taylor, from the Edward and Co salon on Bradford Road, is one of six finalists in the running for the north west region hairdresser of the year award.

He won the award in 2012 and is flying the hairdressing flag for Brighouse again this year.

Mr Taylor’s creative photographic work impressed hairdressing’s big names to get through to the final.

He will now submit more photos from his collection, which will be judged by industry professionals and magazine editors.

He said: “Everyone at the salon is absolutely thrilled to be nominated for the British Hairdressing Awards.

“The awards are the biggest and the best awards in the industry so I’m extremely happy to be in the finals.

“My collection this year took me outside of my comfort zone.

“I spent 18 months planning and changing my mind as I wanted to create a collection of really strong images.

“I based the collection on an apocalyptic era with a commercial presence styling strong haircuts and bold finishes to the hair.

“It was a big gamble but one I’m so glad I took!

“It was fantastic to have won the award back in 2012, this year I am both excited and nervous about the final in November but I do really hope I can bring the trophy back to Brighouse.”

At the age of 15, Mr Taylor began to compete in the hairdressing competition circuit and by 16 was competing in national and international events with the British Hairdressing Team.

Winning titles such as the Yorshire championships, the Lancashire championships eventually lead to his victory at the British championships on numerous occasions.

Mr Taylor and his team will be heading to the awards night on November 23 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
