MEMBERS of a parents’ support group have been given a helping hand to upgrade the hydrotherapy pool at their children’s school.
Friends of Highbury School have been campaigning since October to raise £250,000 so that the 30-year-old swimming pool, which is not running efficiently, can be upgraded with new facilities and equipment being installed.
Currently they have raised £4,700 with fund raising events and donations from the public.
Recently, the school and school governors have donated £100,000 towards the pool.
Friends’ chairwoman Donna Waterhouse said the group was still working hard towards their target.
“The money donated by the school and governors have given us a real boost,” she said.
“There are also other groups and people in the area who are looking to raise money for us as well which is great news.”
More fund raising events are scheduled for the coming months.
Sainsbury’s, which chose the group as its charity of the year, has organised a race night at Brighouse Sports ground on March 13.
The parent group has obtained a licence to go on a pub crawl around Rastrick and Brighouse to collect funds for the school on May 1 and the Highbury Summer ball will take place on June 25 at the Bowers Mill, Greetland, with tickets going on sale soon.
Anyone wanting to help the school can contact them on 01484 716319 or email@example.com
The Rastrick school has also started work on a extension which they hope will be completed in the spring time. Two additional classrooms with storage and toilet facilities will be created as the school hopes to teach the growing number of pupils more effectively.
