A road safety watchdog has raised concerns about plans for a new takeaway.
Plans have been submitted to change Dreem Kitchens at the former Stotts Arms in Wakefield Road at Brighouse into a Pizza Hut Delivery and Takeaway.
Secretary of Brighouse Road Safety Committee, Peter Davies said there was a lot of history to the premises. “They are going to be delivering pizza at busy times and there are concerns about site access and if there is another accident on the M62 there will be blockages.”
One resident said a planning inspector refused an application for a hot food takeaway on a smaller scale back in 2005. She said it was nice that Pizza Hut wanted to come to the town but this was completely the wrong location.
Mr Metcalfe says in a letter: “Brighouse seems to be turning into ‘Takeaway and Betting Shop Town’ nowadays. While new jobs are something to be appreciated, citing another takeaway at the busiest junctions in Brighouse seems to be asking for trouble.
“Can you imagine the effect on Brighouse if a Pizza Hut delivery wagon or an accident happens on the Stotts Island junction, not to mention it makes you wonder where Pizza Hut intend to park their delivery wagon as it certainly won’t fit in the car park. Maybe they’ll just sit on the double yellows at the junction.”
He wonders where employees and customers will park, bearing in mind the small car park is already shared with Subway. “The prospect of customers, employees, delivery drivers and delivery lorries parking on double yellows on Wakefield Road or Clifton Road is just bedlam in the making.” People can comment until June 13 via email@example.com
