Calderdale Green Party has announced its Parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election.
Writer Jenny Shepherd is well-known for “telling it like it is” on the website Upper Calder Valley Plain Speaker.
Jenny has lived in Hebden Bridge for 21 years, taking an active part in non-party political community groups and campaigns such as Hebden Bridge Woodcraft Folk, Save Calderdale Royal Hospital, Ban the Burn and Incredible Edible Mytholm.
A writer, lecturer and digital filmmaker, Jenny is not a politician but thinks politics is too important to be left to politicians.
She said: “Politics is the process where we all decide how we can best live together, and these decisions need to be based on the knowledge and experience of the widest range of people.
“Calderdale Green Party is looking for a new way of doing politics.”
She said around 30 per cent of the Calder Valley electorate did not vote for anyone at the last General Election - more than voted for the eventual winner, current Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker.
“I am interested in talking with those 30 per cent of the electorate who didn’t vote, and proving to them that the Green Party can represent their views,” she said.
“Please get in touch if this sounds like a good idea.”
Jenny can be contacted by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or tweet @jenny4mp. She also has an election campaign blog, http://jenny4mp.wordpress.com.
The General Election is acheduled to take place next year. Other candidates include Craig Whittaker (Conservative), Josh Fenton-Glynn (Labour) and Alisdair McGregor (Liberal Democrat).
