A Brighouse man has been chosen as one of Britain’s most hopeless cooks and will take part in the annual Disaster Chef competition.
Entries came in from all over the country, entered by self-proclaimed ‘disastrous chefs’ or through nominations from friends and families who have suffered one too many kitchen catastrophes at the hands of a loved one.
former navy engineer, John Wardle is one of the entants thanks to his infamous Killer Con Carne.
Deciding his basic Chilli Con Carne needed an extra kick, semi-retired John put not one, not two, but SIX fresh chillies into the pot.
Needless to say, the resulting dish was too hot for him or his family to handle. T
The spicy chilli even took the glazing off the plates and tore through the enamel of the cutlery. He will now compete against nine other ‘disaster chefs’ in the hope of turning his culinary skills around.
Run by Kenwood, John, along with the nine other shortlisted “Disaster Chefs”, will receive a starter pack and weekly video tutorials will be posted online to help the aspiring contestants with their recipe challenges
He will battle it out for a place in the final on November 5 at AVEQIA London, where the finalists will compete for a prize package in front of a judging panel which includes Raymond Blanc OBE.
“Gastronomy is all about creating new tastes, learning new skills and experimenting,” said Mr Blanc. “It’s exactly what we’re doing with the Kenwood Disaster Chef Competition - helping less confident cooks connect with food and feed their creativity. We want to equip beginners with the basic tools for cooking and watch them build upon these skills to create delicious dishes, using their own imagination.
The Disaster Chef who impresses the most with their new found skills and confidence will be crowned Kenwood Chef 2016.
