REQUESTS to take part in this year’s procession seem to have picked up according to its organiser.
Bob Parker said he has been inundated with requests to join in the procession which sets off from Garden Road, Brighouse. But he is eager to hear from more.
So far three bands have expressed an interest and students from Park Lane School at Exley have requested to take part wearing costumes which they have designed for their GCSEs.
“We would like to try and entice more schools to do the same and see bigger costumes for next years,” he said. “This is a first for the procession to get schools interested in this way. We already have two or three floats taking part and we will have a new community transport bus which is starting in Brighouse and Rastrick in the procession.
“We are looking forward to it. We did do very well last year with walking groups and we are hoping the same charity groups will come along again.”
Those taking part in this year’s procession are asked to meet at the Halifax Road end of Garden Road, near the Lane Head Recreation Ground, from 12.30pm in time for the procession leaving at 1pm.
From there the procession will follow the usual route along Lightcliffe Road to Waterloo Road, down Halifax Road, through the town centre along Commercial Street and out to Bradford Road and Wellholme Park.
“I have no aversions to people trying to promote themselves in Brighouse and encourage people to get involved. We want more walking groups and if anyone is struggling to get transport if they give us a bit of time we can arrange that,” said Mr Parker.
