Further urgent calls have been made to improve safety on the rail line around Hipperholme following three tragic deaths in recent months.
Coun David Kirton (Con, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe) told a meeting of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s transport committee that he had contacted Network Rail asking it to improve safety.
He told the meeting: “Clearly the fatalities have been under different circumstances, but I’m really concerned about the rail line as it passes through Lightcliffe Golf Club - there’s a public right of way crossing there, and that’s where the first gentleman lost his life.
“I’m waiting for further information from Network Rail. They’ve replied confirming they are looking into the situation. As we hopefully move towards electrification on the line, then the trains will be coming through there much faster, so I am really concerned about that.
“We really need to look at options to improve safety.”
Coun Kirton told the meeting that he had invited other ward councillors and representatives from Network Rail to examine the site.
