SPORT fans Tony and Joyce Read are going for gold after winning tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Hove Edge couple are among 1,000 winners in the Lloyds TSB Trackside promotion which gave its loyal customers the chance to enter a draw for Olympic tickets.

Tony, aged 58, and Joyce, 63, are now waiting to hear which event their Olympic - or Paralympic - tickets are for.

“We are thrilled to have won and we really don’t mind which event we see,” said Tony.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity to go down to London and sample all the Olympic atmosphere. It’s a great boost for the country.”

Helen Ball, Lloyds customer services manager in Brighouse, and Paralympic hopeful Georgina Oliver of Rastrick were on hand to congratulate the couple on their win.

Wheelchair athlete Georgina said: “I can sense that excitement is growing about the Olympics. I am in the GB squad and I’m really hoping that I will be picked.

“I’m going to Portugal for training in the spring and I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well.”

Joyce said it was pleasure to meet Georgina and to hear about her achievements.

“We would have been following the Games at home on the television next summer but to be there will be a real treat.”
