TODDLER Ashton Mackinven is following in his father’s footsteps by being crowned the Echo’s Child of the Year.
This is the second time the 18-month-old, of Firth Street, Rastrick, has entered the competition and his mum, Corrie, was delighted that he had won the prestigious title.
“His dad, Lee, won the competition in 1985 and a distant cousin of his won the first ever Echo Child of the Year competition,” she said. “I was over the moon when I was told and I am so proud of him.
“I never expected him to win against all those other cute children. I just thought he stood as much chance as the rest.
“I would just like to thank everyone who voted for him every week and made me a very proud mum.”
In second place was Georgina Bentley of Wyke and third was Lillie Rose Wring-Skinner of Church Lane, Brighouse.
