An event is being held to celebrate the publication of a new book which looks at wills and inventories from 17th century Brighouse.
The book entitled Life and Death in the Calder Valley is the latest volume of transcriptions by Halifax Probate Group, edited by David Cant and Alan Petford.
It features probate documents from Brighouse, Shelf and district at the end of the 17th century.
To celebrate the launch of the book the group has combined with Halifax Antiquarians to hold a special Day School at Brighouse Central Methodist Church on Saturday, April 16 from 10am to 4pm.
Speakers will reveal what can be learnt from probate documents from across Yorkshire as well as beginning to piece together what life was like in the Calder Valley.
The cost of the day school, including lunch, is £18.
Booking is essential - email Christine Ray on email@example.com or visit www.halifaxhistory.org.uk
Life and Death in the Calder Valley includes a detailed introduction, indexes of people, places and subjects mentioned in the documents and a full glossary which explains a lot about how people lived and worked.
It costs £10 but there will be reductions on the launch day.
The book can be purchased from members of the group by emailing Halifaxprobate@yahoo.co.uk or from Amazon.co.uk.
A limited number of the Northowram Probate Records are also still available.
