COUNCILLOR David Kirton has been re-selected by the Conservatives to stand for the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe ward in May’s Calderdale Council election.

Councillor Kirton, of Bolehill Park, Hove Edge, has served as the local councillor for the last 11 years.

A senior contracts manager with In Communities based in Bradford, he has been involved in many projects including the memorial garden at Bailiff Bridge and the community centre which opened in January.

He has also worked closely with residents on the Stoney Lane estate with the refurbishment of the park and will work with residents to develop the play area on The Stray, Lightcliffe.

Councillor Kirton played a key role in installing the gates at the back of the Old Brodelians ground to deter nuisance motorbikes and is working with Norwood Green Residents Association for the restoration of greens and commons in the village.

He will be appointed the council’s representative for West Yorkshire Police Authority tomorrow and is currently on the council’s use of resources panel.
