Thousands of visitors will descend on Brighouse once again as organisers prepare for the eagerly awaited Brighouse 1940s Weekend .
The Brighouse Business Initiative, is putting the final touches to the weekend with extra entertainment being scheduled.
Anne Colley, chair of the voluntary group, said Brighouse 1940s Weekend grown into one of the largest in the country and up to 100,000 visitors are expected over the four days.
“This year’s Brighouse 1940s Weekend is going to be even bigger and better than last year, we are taking over more of Brighouse town centre, we will have two stages for outdoor entertainment, more vehicles, static aircraft and much, much more.
“With live 40s music, dancing, parades, vehicles and displays all around the town what better way to join in the fun than by getting fully into the spirit and dressing up 40s style?,” she said.
“Lots of people already do dress up but this year we want to break all records.”
This year will see a special flypast by RAF BBMF Hurricane and Spitfire (weather permitting) on Saturday June 4 at 12.45pm and 5th on Sunday at 2.45pm
Over the weekend attractions include vintage military and civilian vehicle displays, a Winston Churchill lookalike, performances from 1940s singers and 100’s of re-enactors dressed 40’s style.
Visitors will also have the chance to climb in the cockpit of a full size replica Spitfire and enjoy displays from the Land Army, RAF, Luftwaffe, Dambusters, French Resistance and sample W.I. cooking to name but a few.
The traditional vintage market will be held and youngsters will also be able to enjoy period fairground rides.
Steven Lord, one of the organisers commented “The Forties has become so popular as a period in history because people had more time for each other. For me the best things about the Forties were the respect, politeness, sense of community and looking out for each other. It was also a great period for simple entertainment such as listening to music and going to dances. We will bring all these good things back to life at the Brighouse 40s Weekend.”
