Brighouse resident Joanna Simpson was given a brand new car after winning a charity raffle.
Mrs Simpson received a Citroen C1 as the lucky winner of the Martin House Grand Car Raffle and collected the prize from the hospice in Boston Spa from ITV’s Calendar presenter and Martin House Ambassador Christine Talbot.
The raffle, which has been raising funds for the hospice since 2011, this year raised over £42,000.
Mrs Simpson is a long-term supporter of Martin House and a regular buyer of both raffle tickets and Christmas cards. Although she has three children now able to drive, Mrs Simpson has claimed the car for herself.
She said: “My husband will be having my old car and my husband’s car will be passed on to the children.
“My son is ecstatic as he’s home from university over the summer and will now have a car to get around.
“When I got the call from Martin House to say I’d won the car, I didn’t believe it.
“I always read the newsletter and look out for the raffle winner but I never expected to appear myself!”
Director of fundraising at Martin House, Jodie Shepherd, said: “Congratulations to Mrs Simpson and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets this year.
“We are delighted with the amount raised, which brings the total for the past six years to over £220,000.
“Over the coming years, we are planning to do more to ensure families across West, North and East Yorkshire receive care in a place of their choice, whether this is at our hospice or in their own home.
“The money raised will go towards helping us achieve this and support more families across the region.”
Martin House’s services include respite stays, emergency care, community care and end of life care.
