A Brighouse volunteer has organised a fundraising event in aid of a medical research charity.
Jane Speller has organised a buffet and quiz night to help raise funds for the Dr Hadwen
The charity funds and promotes the development of alternatives to animal experiments in medical research.
Jane, who is responsible for the DHT’s Yorkshire Supporters’ Group, said: “I have supported the Trust for many years as their constructive approach is so effective in helping to bring forward the day animal experimentation is finally brought to an end.”
This year the charity launched its Grand Challenge which aims to raise £180,000 to fund a brain tumour research project at the University of Portsmouth, conducted by Professor Geoffrey Pilkington, an international expert on brain tumours.
Jane added: “Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet brain tumour research receives just 1 per cent of the national spend on cancer research. So, the Grand Challenge is an opportunity to help target an underfunded and under resourced area of vital research.”
The event takes place today (April 14) at York’s award winning El Piano’s restaurant. Tickets are £10 and include starters on arrival from 7pm onwards and a buffet dinner at around 8pm. To buy tickets email firstname.lastname@example.org
