Help us celebrate a special date

IT promises to be a summer to remember.

From the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to the Olympics. From the return of town centre circuit cycle racing to the first Brighouse Arts Festival.

And sandwiched in between all that is a rather special date for the Echo – the paper’s 125th anniversary.

It was on June 27, 1887, that local businessman John Hartley produced his first newspaper – a two-sided broadsheet costing one halfpenny.

There are lots of events planned to mark the anniversary and we are asking for your help to set the ball rolling.

We want you to design a logo which we can use on the front of the newspaper.

It could be based on the one we used when the paper celebrated its centenary (right) or a brand new idea.

The winning 125th anniversary logo will appear on the front page of the Echo throughout the year and there will also be a cash prize.

The competition is open to individuals and groups. Why not make it a class project at school or a topic for your art group?

Send your entry to ‘125 Logo’, Brighouse Echo, West Park Street, Brighouse HD6 1JW to arrive no later than Friday, April 5. Good luck.
