A golf club is holding an event to raise money for two cancer charities.

Huddersfield Golf Club in Fixby are aiming to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support and the Bradford NHS Hospital Trust on Friday June 14.

The golfing day is the brainchild of club memberJim Brook, who was diagnosed with throat cancer in January 2012. After a period of treatment at a number of West Yorkshire hospitals, he received the first all clear in August 2012.

Following this he decided he wanted to try and give something back by raising a few pounds for two of the organisations that had helped both him and his family through the period.

He managed to sell out the event in one week.

Among those taking part in the day are teams from Huddersfield Town, led by Andy Booth and four Premier League referees led by Martin Atkinson.

Anyone wanting to make a donation can call at the Golf club or make cheques payable to ‘Fixby Beat Cancer Day’ and send it to Fixby Beat Cancer Day c/o Huddersfield Golf Club, Fixby Hall, Lightcliffe Road, Fixby, Huddersfield, HD2 2EP
