The seeds have been sown for a pioneering grow-your-own scheme in Brighouse - now Incredible Edible is getting ready to take root.
Organisers of the scheme want to hear from members of the public about which unloved and neglected corners of Brighouse they should tackle first.
Incredible Edible, which started in Todmorden, aims to turn unloved patches of waste land and neglected green spaces into practical areas for growing herbs, fruit and vegetables.
At the first meeting of Incredible Edible Brighouse it was decided to draw up a list of which areas to tackle.
Press officer Fran Lister said: “Sadly it was quite a long list so now the steering committee is asking the Brighouse community for ideas.
“Should it be Wellington Arcade, the area round the bus station, the railway station, the land outside Lawson Road - or somewhere else?
“The Incredible Edible group wants to hear suggestions from members of the public.”
Members of Incredible Edible Brighouse are having a stall at the Totally Locally street market in Brighouse on Saturday, April 27 to give people the chance to meet volunteers and sign up for one of the planned palting and garden maintenance sessions.
Fran said: “We are excited to extend Incredible Edible across Calderdale and bring it to Brighouse.
“We want to improve the look of our town by growing fresh herbs, veg and fruit for all to enjoy.
“We are aiming to have some beautiful green spaces ready for our 1940s weekend in June. The idea of community gardens where are all welcome to tend and eat is wonderful and, dare I say, incredible.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge out there waiting to be shared and we would encourage everybody to join us.”
