The future of the A641 through Brighouse and plans for a bypass will be discussed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Investment committee.

The Bradford – Brighouse – Huddersfield Corridor improvements scheme wasapproved by the WYCA as one of the schemes forming part of the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund.

Completion of the scheme is not envisaged within the first five years of the WY+TF however, early scoping work is essential if the programme is to progress.

A mandate has been submitted to request approval to initiate ‘pre-feasibility’ scoping and prioritisation to identify the range, type and location of interventions required along the road.

The study requests a pre-feasibility budget of £100,000 from the fund in order to identify the indicative scope and potential phasing of the scheme.

Leader of Calderdale Council Coun Tim Swift said transport improvements are being made throughout the district and not just in Halifax.

“This is an unprecedented once in a generation opportunity for investment in transport schemes and the biggest investment in transport for a hundred years,” said Coun Swift. “This is a tremendous opportunity amd we are making sure we are getting the benefits right.”

West Yorkshire Combined Authority has been allocated £1bn over 20 years for improvements under the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund to increase employment and growth through investment in transport schemes across the region and York.
