A SURPRISE school assembly gave the whole St Andrew’s Infants School community the chance to say a big thank-you to retiring head Jill Embleton.
Mrs Embleton was stepping down from her position as head at St Andrew’s CE (VA) Infant chool after 14 years service.
Each class created hand made cards and presented gifts to Mrs Embleton.
Parents, governors and members of staff also showed their appreciation by giving gifts including flowers, a cake and collage of pictures from her time at the school.
The surprise assembly was organised by the school and a small party was held in the playground where everyone got to give their thanks.
Pupils from St Andrew’s Junior school also came to say their farewells to their former teacher and sung songs along with the other guests.
Mrs Embleton said she knew nothing about the assembly until the morning and it was amazing how they had organised everything.
“I have loved being here and enjoyed every minute,” she said. “It is a wonderful school and I am very sorry to go.
“It’s a tribute to the staff, governors, parents and all the children that make the school what it is.
“The assembly was wonderful and lasted for over an hour and all the gifts are really thoughtful because they are all based around things I will be doing in my spare time.”
With her free hours, she now plans to go travelling and visit Australia. When she returns from her trip, Mrs Embleton will spend more time with her horses and on her hobbies of arts and crafts and gardening.
Teacher Mrs Wood, on behalf of the staff and children said they were going to miss Mrs Embleton. “She loves this school and has been hugely popular throughout the community.”
