Aspiring gymnasts from Lightcliffe Primary School have twirled their way to a haul of medals at two competitions.

The Year four and five/six advanced gymnastic squads took part in the Calderdale Key Steps Gymnastic competition.

The team had to compete in floor and body management sequences and the vault.

Alicia Halliday, Ella Taylor, Noah Cockburn, Georgia Brearley and Erin Titterington made up the Year four team and the advanced squad of Phoebe Cummings, Ella Pearson, Corra Clarke, Izzy Haigh and Emily Pyrah finished in the gold medal position, which qualified them to represent Calderdale in the West Yorkshire School Games.

The foundation Year five/six team of Lucy Coldwell, Ada Solomon, Morgan Pearson, Jessica McConnell and Hannah Clarke came away with the silver medals.

At the youth games held at Leeds Metropolitan University, the Lightcliffe pupils squad competed against other children from Bradford, Wakefield, Leeds and Kirklees, and finished third.

PE teacher and coach Kelly Bourne said: “Reaching the finals is a massive achievement in itself as there are 703 primary schools in West Yorkshire! The squads took part in the same format as their previous competition. The children performed fantastically and as always were a credit to themselves and our school.”
