From Rastrick to Madrid, Rachael wins top uni prize

A former Rastick High School pupil has been awarded a top university prize at her graduation.

Rachael Victoria Wilson, who also went to Carr Green Primary School and Huddersfield New College, graduated from Portsmouth University with a first class honours degree in European Business and Spanish.

She was also presented with the faculty award given to the student with the highest mark on her course.

“I was shocked to be presented with it,” said the 22-year-old. “I got an email through and I though it was junk but soon realised that it was from the university.”

Her four-year degree also included studying in Madrid for 12 months and a 12 month internship in the finance department at Pfizer in Surrey.

“It was a great experience in Madrid where all the lessons were done in Spanish,” she added.

Rachael is now working, having secured a permanent job at Pfizer and is also studying to be an accountant, though she does get chance to see her mum and dad, who still live on Badger Hill, Rastrick, on a regular basis. She is set to start her accountancy exams in November.
