A Brighouse school has hit the right note with the British Army after being recognised for its continuing commitment and dedication to the Reserve Forces.

Brighouse High School has been awarded a special certificate - one of only 80 presented each year - after confirming its continuing support to West Yorkshire’s Reserve Force.

Headteacher Liz Cresswell said: “We are delighted to be recognised in this way and are very proud to be supporting the Reserve Forces.

“Not only do reservists provide a vital role to our armed forces, but we and our employees also benefit enormously from the transferable skills they learn, particularly in decision-making, leadership and team work.”

Head of music at the school, Rebecca Venus, has been a Reservist with the Band of The Yorkshire Regiment since 2008. As a trombone player, Corporal Venus performs within the UK and abroad. She contributes to the Regimental Journal and manages the band’s social media.
