The international news, whether it be on screen or in the printed media, appears to be bad news every time you either switch the television on or read a newspaper.
This inevitably means that all the major charities are at full stretch to meet the needs of the people in crisis.
I am sure we can remember the horrors of the mid 1990s with the Rwandan massacres and genocide. When thousands of people were cut down and brutally murdered. Leaving those that could to escape for their lives with their children and the few bits and pieces they could carry with them.
In this photograph are four of the volunteers at the Commercial Street Oxfam Charity shop back in the mid 90s when the Rwandan crisis came to our town.
The ladies from left to right: Kathleen Rukin; Alison Whiteley; Ella Briggs and Hazel Macaulay were kept very busy with their efforts as Brighouse people supported the international cry for help on behalf of the Rwandan people.
