Community groups faced the Rastrick Big Local ‘dragons’ to bid for a share of £1 million in grant funding.

In the format of the BBC television programme Dragons Den, organisations put forward their proposals to help fund projects that will benefit the people of Rastrick.

Adrian Hartshorn from Rastrick Big Local said: “The Community Projects Fund 2014 attracted 19 bids and 11 of these bids were chosen to pitch their idea that would benefit the citizens of Rastrick.

“The pitches ranged from a community radio station to having a community defibrillator.” The money will be administered by a trust which will be sending representatives to Rastrick in the next few weeks to drum up ideas and encourage people to formulate a plan for spending the cash over the next 10 years.

The grant awards will be presented by Mrs Helen Lennie, former head teacher at Rastrick High School Academy, at a gala awards evening on March 31 at Field Lane Primary School.

Also on the night will be the Big Local AGM, news of the Big Local community plan and the school choir will be performing ‘Rastrick Born and Raised’.

There will be a free pie and peas supper for Rastrick residents and invited guests.

Supper tickets are available at the school, via email info@rastrickbiglocal.co.uk or call Mr Hartshorn on 01484 386023.
