Death of funeral director Michael Wright, aged 69

MR Michael Wright, the well-known Brighouse funeral director, has died at the age of 69.

Mr Wright, who had been ill with cancer for three years, was associated with the family-run business Naylor and Grysdale, of Lightcliffe Road, Brighouse.

He was a member, past president and fellow of the British Institute of Funeral Directors, past president of the British Institute of Embalmers and member of the National Association of Funeral Directors.

He started his career as a joiner and then joined the Co-operative Funeral Directors, working in Cleckheaton, where he lived, Bradford and Keighley. He started working in Brighouse about 30 years ago.

Mr Wright leaves a wife Anne, son Mark, who is also involved in the business, daughter Jayne, daughter-in law Karen and two grandchildren, Ellie and Oliver.

Jayne said: “He was a great family man and was well-known for his sense of humour. He had a larger-than-life personality and he was always making people laugh.”

Mr Wright’s funeral will be held at St Luke’s Church, Cleckheaton, on Monday at noon followed by cremation at Park Wood at 12.45pm.
