An anti-social and crime fighting project in Rastrick has been given the backing by the West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson.
Mr Burns-Williamson visited Field Lane All Residents Association (FLARA), who had a project funded by the Safer Communities Fund to reduce anti-social behaviour in their area.
The Fund is run by the PCC and financed through money recovered from criminals by West Yorkshire Police and prosecutors.
“It was great to visit Field Lane All Residents Association to see the difference they’ve made in their community with the grant from the Safer Communities Fund,” said Mr Burns-Williamson.
“They are obviously a very motivated and caring group and it was good to see the work they have done with young people.”
FLARA received £5,250 in grant round 4 of the fund and used it to turn a neglected piece of land into a young people’s space.
The space now provides an innovative area for young people to use and feel invested in.
The money from the Safer Communities Fund went towards a new sheltered area and improved landscaping including raised planting.
Andrea Bloom of Field Lane All Residents Association said: “The project has been most successful in removing problems from outside the parade of shops and bus stops. The site is well used by young people of varying ages and even in bad weather young people can be seen using the sheltered area.”
During his visit the commissioner met with Valley North East Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and joined them on a roads policing operation targeting speeding drivers on Bradford Road in Brighouse.
Sergeant Darren Bedford of the Valley’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said; “It was a great opportunity to once again welcome the Police and Crime Commissioner to Brighouse and to demonstrate some of the work the neighbourhood team do every day in tackling the issues that really matter to the community.
“The use of inappropriate speed on Calderdale Roads is something the team regularly seeks to address through targeted operations, aiming to make the roads safer for all road users.”
