Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died following a road accident in Brighouse yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
The collision happened at approximately 1.20pm on Elland Road, Brighouse, near Cromwell Bottom, and involved a black Citroen C5 and a bicycle.
The cyclist, who is yet to be formally identified but believed to be a 55-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
A 57-year-old man, from Brighouse, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Carole Greaves, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision itself, the manner of driving of the Citroen C5 immediately prior to this collision or the route and manner that the bicycle was being ridden. Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101.”
The crash left the busy route between Brighouse and Elland closed for several hours while emergency services and accident investigators dealt with the incident.
