A new head of family law has been appointed at Armitage Sykes in Brighouse.
Ruth Miller’s new position coincides with the law firm in Bradford Road launching fixed fee family law work.
She said: “At a time of major change in family law, we believe it’s vital to make it as easy for people to gain access to justice. We are taking an entrepreneurial view of the changing climate and introducing fixed fees for family law into Brighouse.”
Latest research from YouGov, commissioned by Government, shows the biggest rise in fixed fee pricing was in family law, usually divorce, where the proportion of people paying fixed fee pricing jumped from six per cent to 26 per cent in one year, she said.
“We understand that more and more clients are looking for cost certainty and believe that there is currently a gap in the market for high-quality fixed-fee family law services for straightforward cases. This does not mean we have given up our legal aid work, it just means we are moving with the times.” she said.
The law firm is also launching a new mediation service and will be undertaking care proceedings in Calderdale.
Ruth qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has lived and worked in Huddersfield since 2000. She trained as a collaborative lawyer in 2007 and is a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Accreditation Scheme. She has been approved as a member of the law Society’s specialist Child Law Accreditation Scheme.
