Shoppers have thrown their weight behind plans for a new Lidl supermarket in Brighouse.
As revealed in last week’s Echo, Lidl has submitted plans to Calderdale Council for a new store on Wakefield Road, between Wood Street and Grove Street, on the approach to Brighouse town centre.
It says the 2,167 square metre store with 96 parking spaces will create “a significant number” of new jobs.
The plans have met with opposition from business owners who are concerned about the impact on the local economy.
But an online poll on the Echo website - www.brighouseecho.co.uk - shows the vast majority of shoppers are in favour of a Lidl opening in Brighouse.
Seventy-six per cent of voters said they would like to see a Lidl in the town.
