Residents are being urged to have their say and help shape plans for development in Brighouse for the next 15 years.

Calderdale Council is starting work on the Land Allocations and Designations Plan which will identify sites which could be developed and areas that will be protected from development. This could be anything ranging from housing, employment, retail, and waste management, to open spaces, green belt and environmental protection areas.

A community engagement workshops will take place at Brighouse Sixth Form Centre on February 17, 7pm-9pm.

At Brighouse Ward Forum Councillor Colin Stout (Ind, Brighouse) said: “We do live in a nice area with green belts and nice homes. It’s good that the villages like Clifton, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe are separated with this greenery as they keep their individuality.

“To keep this it is important sign up and come to this workshop.”

The Council has earmarked Brighouse as a site for 2,100 new homes by 2029 and around 2,190 office jobs and 600 warehouse and industry jobs.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Coun Barry Collins said: “This is a chance for local people to help shape the future for development in their own areas. We’re keen to get the views of as many residents as possible about which site allocations and designations should be included in the plan for Calderdale. We also want people to comment on potential sites which have already been put forward.”

Ten events will be held around Calderdale in February and March which will give local people a chance to attend the workshop that will focus on their local area.

Anyone wanting to attend a workshop, should contact the Council in advance. Residents can do this by visiting, by email, by post - Spatial Planning Team, Planning and Highways, Calderdale Council, Northgate House, Northgate, Halifax, HX1 1UN or by calling 01422 392206.
